For every project, we build a team of specialists managed by a project Manager and a project Director. The diversity of skills amongst our consultants allows us to offer multidisciplinary teams able to address the most complex issues.

Pierre Odent – Chief Executive Officer

Pierre is a Transport Consultant with 20 years experience of road, rail and airport projects around the world. A transport economist by training with an MSc in Transportation Planning & Management and an Advanced Management degree obtained at Henley. Pierre has a wide ranging portfolio of projects, ranging from the definition of regional transportation Master Plans, cost benefit evaluation of transportation projects, the development of national, regional and urban multimodal models and the evaluation of the impact of transportation policy on air quality. Prior to joining EXPLAIN as its Chief Executive in January 2015, Pierre was CEO of MVA Consultancy and before, General Manager for MVA in France.

Alexandre Bréèrette – Managing Director

Alexandre Bréèrette 600Prior to joining EXPLAIN, Alexandre spent 14 years with MVA where he contributed to numerous studies as an expert, project manager or project director. He has acquired a wide range of skills and gives lectures on the interaction between land use and transportation at Ecole Centrale de Lyon. Alexandre contributed to the development of several transportation models at different geographical scales: national models used to evaluate high speed rail projects such as Poitiers-Limoges, Bordeaux-Spain and Bordeaux-Toulouse, regional models in Normandie and Franche Comté, multimodal urban models in Saint Etienne and Nantes. He developed several transportation strategies as project manager: regional transport plan for Normandie, transport plan for Greater Besançon, strategy to reduce car use in the Paris city centre. He was Project Director for several appraisal for large infrastructure projects: GPSO High speed rail project, the highway bypass project for Clermont Ferrand. Alexandre also managed several traffic engineering studies for Greater Lyon and private developers such as Auchan and Leroy Merlin.

Valentine Minard – Project Director – Expert

valentine-minard-250bValentine has 10 years experience in transportation planning. She joined EXPLAIN after 3 years with CDVIA and 7 years  with MVA Consultancy. She is an experienced Project Manager and Project Director and has led projects for local Authorities, public and private developers.

Her main expertise concerns traffic management, public transport, terminal planning and pedestrian movement optimization.

She has a strong experience in the development of assignment models as well as mircrosimulation models.

Laurent Guimas – Project Director – Expert

Laurent works for EXPLAIN as Project Director and expert. Previously, he spent 8 years with MVA where he contributed to numerous studies as an expert, project manager or project director. Laurent also spent 5 years in public research with CNRS. He conducted several research projects on passengers and freight transport at European, national and more local levels. He has developed a deep expertise in transport multimodal modelling including multi-agent modelling techniques and land use modelling. He gives lectures at Ecole Centrale de Lyon and has presented in several seminars on transport modelling, transport policy and land use. With MVA, Laurent managed all the development of the French National transport model for Freight and passengers (MODEV) for the Ministry of transport. He was in charge of demand forecast for the GPSO high speed rail project, developed traffic and revenue forecast for the Charles De Gaulle Express project, developed the multimodal urban model for Greater Strasbourg and advised on the development of the traffic model for Casablanca.

Aline Bagland – Project Director

Aline Bagland 600Aline works for EXPLAIN as a project Manager.

Aline has 18 years experience in traffic engineering, modelling and appraisal.

Nicolas Mony – Project Director – Expert

nicolas-mony-250Nicolas works for EXPLAIN as a Project Manager. Previously, he spent 4 years at MVA developing strong capabilities in survey and modelling techniques using specialized software. He contributed to the development of the French National model (MODEV) for the Ministry of Transport, and he produced the demand forecast for the GPSO high speed project. He worked on the development on the regional model for Haute and Basse Normandy. In parallel, Nicolas has worked on a variety of subjects: transport strategy, traffic engineering, survey techniques, risk analysis, and LUTI models.

Lorène Honoré – Project Director – Expert

Lorène works for EXPLAIN as an expert.

Previously, Lorène spent 9 years with MVA in Paris and in Bangkok.

Her experience covers interchange planning, accessibility studies, land use, multimodal modelling. She has been involved in complex transportation planning studies involving all modes of transport.

Laurent Jardinier – Project director – Expert

Laurent is an expert at EXPLAIN.

Laurent has over 20 years’ experience in mobility analysis and transport planning, and has worked as project manager and expert on numerous large-scale studies. After a career with Cerema (and its former components), Laurent joined EXPLAIN in September 2023.

His experience covers a wide range of passenger transport planning professions: mobility components of SCoTs (Mont-Blanc, Agen, Libourne), mobility plans (Valenciennes, Amiens, Grenoble, Valenciennes, Dole, Oyonnax), transport expertise for major urban projects (Lyon Confluence, Porte des Alpes, Part-Dieu, OL-Décines stadium), traffic studies (network hierarchization, dynamic traffic simulations), drafting of methodological documents, capitalization and knowledge dissemination.

His experience also covers the “externalities” of transport, such as air quality (ZAPA, ZCR, ZFE-m initiatives), the effects of mobility on health (contribution of active modes, effects of air quality), GHG emissions and the decarbonization of mobility. Backed by this cross-disciplinary knowledge, he has taught the links between Transport and Health at ENTPE, Lyon 3, and contributed his expertise to a number of bodies.

Alexandre Nicolas – Expert

Alexandre works for EXPLAIN as an Expert. Alexandre obtained his engineering degree at Ecole Polytechnique, he also has an MSC from Cambridge University and obtained a PHD in Physics at University of Grenoble. Prior to joining EXPLAIN, Alexandre was a researcher and specialized in pedestrian modelling. He is the author or co-author of more than 20 publications.

Malik Béchar – Expert

Malik has 20 years of international experience in transport modelling (highway, public transport and
four-stage multimodal models) and has worked both in the public and private sectors, mainly within
Australia, France and Asia. He specialises in high level strategic transport modelling with extensive
experience in using CUBE softwares (TRIPS and VOYAGER).

Malik’s experience covers all the technical aspects of transport modelling: data analysis, networks
coding, model development/calibration/validation (motorisation, generation/attraction, distribution,
modal choice and assignments, highway and public transport), matrix estimation and scenarios
testing/analysis. He has managed various transport modelling projects and his main achievement is
the development of a four-stage multimodal model for New Delhi, capital of India (population of 17
million).

Jean Dominique Blardone – Expert

jdbJean Dominique works for EXPLAIN as an expert. He spent the last 20 years working on transport modelling, transport economics and intelligent transport systems. In 1996, he pioneered real time traffic information systems in Europe with the development of SYTADIN. The web site rapidly became the most visited web site of the French Ministry of Transport. Nowadays, thousands of websites use information from SYTADIN. During that period, Jean Dominique worked on several experiment to introduce real time traffic information in GPS both for cars (CARMINAT) and freight transport. Starting in 2000, Jean Dominique started to develop traffic information servers for mobile phone services, and contributed to the development of real time information systems for toll roads operators. In 2003, he joined the French Ministry of Transport where he took responsibility for the development of MODEV: the French National transport model for passengers and freight movements. With MODEV, he produced and managed many longitudinal studies: optimizing the location of freight multimodal platforms in France, appraisal of cross Pyrenean and cross Alps transportation infrastructure projects, demand forecast for Maritime’s freight motorways, evaluation of tax policies on heavy goods vehicles, hinterland analysis for the main French harbours etc. He used MODEV to evaluate the 2030 French national infrastructure plan, and to look at greenhouse gas emissions.

David Wiedmer – Project Manager

David works for EXPLAIN as a Project Manager.

David is a civil engineer with 10 years’ experience in transportation planning. David specialized in transport strategies, accessibility analysis and traffic engineering.

Marylène Aligne – Architect

Marylène is an architect and a land use specialist.

Marylène joins EXPLAIN after 10 years spent in various Architecture companies. Marylène brings a deep undertanding of the interactions between land use and transportation, she works mainly on transportation policy projects.

Gabriel Oyarzun – Architect

Gabriel is an architect and a land use specialist.

Gabriel joins EXPLAIN after 3 years as a researcher looking at equity and accessibility of cycling infrastructure in Santiago de Chile. Within EXPLAIN, Gabriel brings his expertise of sustainable mobility to a variety of transportation policy projects.

Alexandra Simon – Project Manager

Alexandra works for EXPLAIN as an Project Manager.

Alexandra specialized in transportation planning during her engineering degree at the French National School of Public Works and at University Lumière Lyon 2 where she obtained her Master degree in urban and regional passenger transport. Prior to joining EXPLAIN, Alexandra worked for RATP Dev and for isio.

Baptiste Cordhomme – Project Manager

Baptiste works for EXPLAIN as a Project Manager.

Baptiste specialized in transportation planning during his engineering degree at the French National School of Public Works and at Lyon University where he obtained his Master degree transport.

Mathilde Lemesle – Project Manager

Mathilde joins EXPLAIN in 2019 as a Project Manager.

Mathilde specialized in transportation planning during her engineeting degree at Université Technologique de Compiègne. Thanks to her multi-disciplinary and generalist training, Mathilde brings a global and transversal vision to urban transport and mobility studies.

At EXPLAIN, Mathilde is involved in studies of cycle routes: for the National Velodrome in preparation for the 2024 Olympic Games, as part of the Paris Ouest La Défense cycle master plan, or as part of the cycle master plan for the Carnelle Pays de France community of municipalities.

Mathilde is also involved in a number of multimodal studies, including the revision of the Mobility Plan for Greater Besançon, the development of the travel plan for the Communauté d’Agglomération du Bassin d’Arcachon Sud, the revision of the Local Travel Plan for Plaine Commune, and a multimodal study for the Melun Val de Seine conurbation.

Jules Ferrand – Project Manager

Jules works as a project manager.

Jules has over 10 years’ experience in mobility engineering. After working for Vinci Autoroutes and Lee Sormea, Jules joined EXPLAIN in March 2023.

His expertise covers mobility in the broadest sense, with solid references in urban and inter-urban traffic management: in particular, he has managed large-scale projects in traffic signaling, including priority for public transport (BHNS T4 in Rouen, Rocade du Jarret in Marseille). As part of the A480 project in Grenoble, he acted as traffic manager for APRR and all local players (DDT, Métropole, SEMITAG) to anticipate/manage/support the impact of the project on mobility in the Grenoble metropolitan area.

His skills in traffic management have enabled him to take part in numerous other projects, from data collection to travel modeling and presentation of results to elected representatives (traffic plans for Bourgoin-Jallieu, Beauvais, Avignon and various studies for the CD38, notably RD523, RD1090, RD1075, RD522…). He also has recognized experience in the inter-urban environment, notably in dynamic traffic regulation and reserved lanes (public transport, carpooling), as well as in directional signage (management of numerous studies for the DIR Ouest), including socio-economic assessments.

Ngagne Diop – Project Manager

Ngagne works for EXPLAIN as a Project Manager.

Ngagne is an engineer with a PhD in transport modelling obtained at University of Dunkirk. Ngagne also holds an Msc in transport management obtained at University Libre in Brussels.Prior to joining EXPLAIN, Ngagne worked for Vinci and for the Ministry of Transport in Dakar, Senegal.

His area of expertise covers multimodal modelling using agent-based methodologies.

Romane Lecuyer – Analyst

Romane works for EXPLAIN as an analyst.

Romane specialized in transportation planning and land use during her engineering degree at CentraleSupélec and at Politecnico di Milano where she obtained her Master degree in urban Planning and Policy Design.

Maxence Vauchier – Analyst

Maxence works for EXPLAIN as an analyst.

Maxence specialized in transportation planning during his engineering degree at the French National School of Public Works and at University Lumière Lyon 2 where he obtained his Master degree in urban and regional passenger transport.
